Caraway seeds are used for upset gastrointestinal tracts, with gas and belching, as well as nausea. It acts very similar to fennel. Not as pleasant tasting to me as is fennel, but some people dislike the taste of  fennel and this is a nice carminative choice. They can be eaten similar to Fennel, by popping them into one’s mouth. However, the flavor can be quite strong, so make sure your patient is okay with the taste.

There is clinical research confirming it’s assistance for functional dyspepsia.

Contraindications: In 2014 a preliminary safety evaluation took place with Caraway. 1 oz of a water based extract was given daily to seventy overweight and obese women for 12 weeks. This study suggested that the oral intake of caraway at this dose for 12 weeks was without any adverse effects.
